Marine Services & Supplies for Universal Marina

Dummy Almanac - Area 2 Map of Universal Marina

The Universal Marina is arguably the oldest or certainly one of the oldest marinas on the River Hamble and despite the huge metropolis of yachts that are moored on the Hamble, the marina is probably the best kept secret on the river.
Nestling amongst the oak trees, the marina can be found on the east bank, about a mile and a half from the mouth of the river entrance. Most of the site is set aside for nature and the tow path of the picturesque Hamble River Trail, which runs from Warsash to Bursledon, passes through the marina complex.
Universal Marina was once owned by the Astor family and during WW2 it was used as an industrial shipyard to build naval vessels, before reverting back to being a traditional boat yard.  The marina is now a family run business, which over the years has injected a considerable amount of investment and vibrancy into the site.
The most notable change is the recent expansion of the marina, providing a total of 249 berths which will soon be matched with extra toilet and shower facilities.
Like all the marinas on the Hamble, there are no dedicated visitors berths but with prior arrangement berthing is available should a berth holder be away.  WiFi is widely available on all the marina pontoons and visitors to the marina can enjoying the use of fresh water and free shore power.
Shore side facilities and support services include newly refurbished toilets and showers and a well equipped laundry room, which are all accessible by FOBs or key codes, and the laundry is coin operated (£1 and 50p).  Support services includes a marine engineer, a chandlery, workshops and a boat yard.  The focal point of the marina is the Cafe Lulworth  - a fully licensed bar and restaurant, open 7 days a week from 7.30 am, providing a choice of three menus either to eat in or take away.
The marina is a member of the TransEurope Marinas where visitors from reciprocal marinas can enjoy 50% discounts off their berthing charges.
For getting out and about, the nearest bus stop is about a 15 minute walk away at Sarisbury Green where buses  regularly stop on route either towards Southampton or Fareham.  A wide variety of pubs and restaurants await you at either end of the Hamble River Trail and the nearest shops for provisions is at Sarisbury Green.  There is a River Taxi service which is run by the Hamble/Warsash ferry operators, which is easily identified through their ‘shocking pink' coloured livery and they can be called up on VHF ch 77 or mob 07720 438402.
